UV Cure Platforms from Bayer
Dual-Cure Coating Systems
When
the surface to be coated includes shadow areas - sections the UV
curing lamp cannot reach - a newer technology known as dual-cure
coating systems offer another solution. The main benefit of dual-cure
UV coating systems is that they overcome the known problems of UV
mono cure - shrinkage and incomplete cure of the coating on surfaces
with a complex geometry. Dual-cure UV coating systems utilize both
raw materials for UV curing and polyurethane coating system raw
materials for conventional curing.
Manufacturers
meet limitations with UV-curing if the geometry of the object to
be coated results in shadows or has features such as folds that
cannot be exposed to radiation. In response to this challenge, Bayer
developed polyurethane systems which are both UV-curing and undergo
conventional NCO/OH crosslinking (dual-cure systems).
Conventional
curing polyurethane coating systems offer high versatility and high
performance. Therefore these raw materials for coatings are suitable
for many applications such as automotive, aircraft, plastics, construction
and furniture, as well as indoor and outdoor use.
